I’m trying to block an IP address that belongs to Facebook Ireland, but Wordfence will not let me block it. Instead I get a pop-up window saying that it is on an internal Wordfence whitelist and cannot be blocked.

I do not have any IPs whitelisted in the Wordfence options.

How can I block this IP?

  • Hi rentaldepot,
By default Wordfence whitelists all Facebook IPs, this is necessary to prevent posts sharing issues on Facebook, that’s why you can not block this IP, I’m not sure why you want to do that by the why?

    Thanks.

    Hi wfalaa,

    Thanks for the response.

I would like to block this IP, what is the workaround for this?

You could try blocking it directly in your .htaccess file, check this tool to generate the code required for that.

    Thanks.

Thanks wfalaa, I will check that out.

I do wish there was a way to override the internal whitelist for a specific IP – even a popup saying “This is a Facebook IP, are you sure you want to block it?” would work. I know it’s hard to make everyone happy though.

Out of curiosity, what other companies are on the Wordfence whitelist? Is there a list somewhere?

I think the notification message you suggested should be helpful to understand the reason for getting your IP rejected, I will make sure to discuss that with the team and add your vote for this one.

For a full list of the whitelisted IPs, you can check this file:
    (/wordfence/lib/wfIPWhitelist.php)

    Thanks.
