• Greetings,

I have a client that I built a wordpress site for using the domain scenica1a.com

They had a website running at another host at scenica1a.org (preferred domain)

    I have a redirect in-place that redirects from scenica1a.org TO scenica1a.com
however they DO NOT want visitors ending up at the scencia1a.com domain. When I attempted to move the site, WordPress broke in unfathomable ways.

Both domains are in the same cPanel account on my server (the .com is the main domain for the cPanel account)

Is it possible to have both domains use the same document root so that if a user going to scencia1a.org OR scenica1a.com they are served the same WordPress site?
Do you know how badly it will break WordPress?

I really want to solve this problem for my customer if at all possible. I looked for some type of paid WordPress support (I am willing to pay) but there are so many scammers out there, I didnt want to take the chance.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to undertake this task?

    Thanks in advance

  • Move the site you created that you want to use (scenica1a.com) to where you want it…

Now point the domain you want to really use (scenica1a.org) to the same server and set that domain itself to point at senica1a.com’s web root as needed. Your web host should be able to help you with this.

Now follow these instructions below to change the domain name to your preferred dot org domain within WordPress.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/changing-the-site-url/

Finally, go back to the registrar for the dot com domain and forward that domain to the site using the dot org domain. That registrar can probably help you there.

If you feel you need help with something like this you can sometimes hire a dev fairly reasonably at https://jobs.wordpress.net/ but I encourage you to try doing it yourself. It’s another good skill to have.

And we are here to help if you get lost in the process.
