  • Why do you need to create a physical file (=homepage.php) when the feature to set up a WP Page as your homepage is built in?

I”m not going to – it *is* my intention to allow WP to make the home page with it’s new functionality – I just thought that it was going to be displayed as /homepage.php because when I asked a different question in the forum here on how to do it, I was told to create homepage.php

Maybe you can help me out here please

It all depends on your WP version. Prior to 2.1 you had to create a file but not anymore.

Just go Options > Reading and follow the instructions.
