• Hi,

As usual when theres a new beta out, I do install onto my server. Problem is I just installed 2.3 RC1 and I clicked upgrade the database and goes to a white screen. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

  • Hmm, dang it. Probably a host server related issue. Maybe contact them, and ask them if they’re doing maintenance on the server, or if they can explain WHY your upgrade page is giving a blank page. I’m not really sure what else it would be then, I’m not a pro with MySql and PHP so.. I hope things get solved for you.

Well unfortunately, I cannot get a page to load so I’ve decided to delete all and reinstall from scratch and I have a backup so I’ll just post my stories etc manually in order to see if I can get everything working. Obviously I’ll lose memberships, files etc but it seems the only way around for me personally. Thanks to everyone for trying to help me out.

Same problem. I installed RC-1 on 2 blogs no problem. with the stable relase planned on rolling out to all blogs. First one installed to gave a white screen. No idea what is going on.

I downgraded and got back up. Tried to install the RC, to no avail and had to downgrade again. all blogs (even the ones with working 2.3) are ont he same server. Not willing to do the backup clean install – too much time and I am risk averse.

I had the same issue. I follow the detailed instructions (as I have in the past for an upgrade), deleted the necessary files and kept the important ones, uploaded the working version this morning of 2.3 and I went to my admin page and I was told that my database was out of date, I need to upgrade.

    I missed the message about it taking a while, so when I clicked upgrade now, it came to a white screen and I soon after refreshed. That was my mistake. Now I am getting database errors and duplicate entries;

WordPress database error: [Duplicate entry ‘1-category’ for key 2]

Starting to freak out a little bit, don’t know if it is still working in the background or if I need to do a fresh install or what…

Trying to fix my issue of a white screen, the only thing I knew to do was a fresh install.

I started to export out all of my tables individually, change the name of the table, and reimport them back into the new install. Everything seemed to work fine until I hit wp_options, and then when I went to my new install, it asked me to update my wordpress database. Then I got the same repeating errors with the duplicate entries.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I have this issue, too. So frustrating! Upgraded to 2.3 and have a blank white screen for both my index and login pages. I can’t access the frontend or the admin section of my site. Ugh.

Heh, so it wasn’t just me. The only way I found to fix it was to have a clean install. It wasn’t server related at all.

2.3 is here from a few days… So, stop crying on RC and upgrade now! ??

And remember to install WPAU now, and next upgrades will be a lot easier… ??

I have the exact same problem; with the blank page and no possibility to log in to my admin panel. I get the message:

    Database Upgrade Required

Your WordPress database is out-of-date, and must be upgraded before you can continue.

The upgrade process may take a while, so please be patient.

Is my only option to delete everything and do an installation from scratch to make WP version 2.3.2 work? And then try to restore posts, comments etc from my back-up?
