WordPress 2.7 behind a proxy

Now that bug 4779 has been fixed, is there a straightforward way to configure WordPress to use a proxy for outgoing HTTP requests? (as mentioned in 4011)

I’ve had a look in the Snoopy class, and can add the proxy settings there as in previous versions, but I’m not sure if that will be sufficient.
