I am a newbie to WordPress but a reasonably competent user of html, php and Joomla. I wanted to try WordPress so I installed the latest version in a sub domain with my ISP.

I installed WordPress 2.9.2 and simply could not get it to work. I kept getting a response that said there was an internal error. I read on this forum, in a post I can not now find, that someone else was having the same problem and tried installing 3.0 Beta 2 and it worked fine. I tried the beta version and likewise it has worked fine for me.

The only thing that I can think is that 2.9.2 has a problem with either MySQL 5.1.44 or PHP 5.2.13

Naturally I do not recommend everyone tries using beta versions however this is an issue that needs examining

Internal server errors are usually logged with more details in the server error log. The next time you see an internal server error, note the date and time, and immediately check your server error log for anything useful.

I have had problems since installing WP2.92 https://www.tricitypsychologycom 3 weeks ago, first with database then logging on to website
When logging on to website I get this message:

The server https://www.tricitypsychology.com at Access for /logs requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).

I have reinstalled fresh wordpress files but still have no luck… also the blog is not linking to full posts eg.

I have seen similar posts that suggest a rogue file… but installing fresh files has no effect

welshgirl, please start your own topic. That has nothing to do with Fredlegs’ issue.

I have but can’t find it I posted about an hour ago

You’re right, your previous post was deleted for some reason. Since you re-posted, I left it in the trash to avoid confusion.

I checked the logs and could not find anything. Just for the sake of curiosity I created a new sub domain and created a completely new installation of 2.9.2 and a new database. The only thing I changed in the wp-config.php was the name of the database. I used the same user on this and my previous database.

I then tested the installation without a config file and it started ok, something that had not happened with the previous attempt. I did not proceed but went back and uploaded the prepared wp-config.php file.

Again the installation started ok but this time I continued through to complete the installation.

I really can not imagine what went wrong the first time. It is unlikely to be a corrupted file as I tried two fresh installs. The only thing I can think is that there was a transient problem with the server software that has now been resolved.

    Thanks for your patience.
