I tried to update my 3.2 install manually to the newest wordpress version 3.4.1. I copied all of the files over, and then went to my wordpress install /upgrade.php to finish the install. It said

    Database Update Required

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.

When I click to update wordpress database it goes to a screen with just the wordpress logo. It’s been doing this for the bast 6 hours. Our site is in accessible, and I’m wondering if I need to roll back to the previous version. I made sure to disable all of my plugins before I began the install.

Please advise, I’d really like to upgrade my install as the previous version was giving us some problems.

    Thanks.

    Elise

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
