• I have attempted to manually Upgrade to WordPress 3.4 for my site.

After the wp-admin, and wp-includes files are uploaded, I am prompted to Update my database. I have clicked on the button to update the information and I am sent to a blank screen.

The database does not get updated and the only way I can bring the site back is by switching back to an older version. Is there any suggestions?

  • Nevermind! I was able to get it fixed. Thanks anyway, and good luck to the rest of you ??

Getting same message as Sims_VP did:
    _wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwordpress%2Fwp-admin%2F
Any way to fix this ? ( I’m a novice so please use short easy to understand words ) THANKS !

@sims_vip & angermonkey: It is impolite and contrary to forum policy to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with a question of your own. Please post your own topics.

Sorry ! Was my first post to any such forums .
So I should post the same question ?
    Under a separate heading?
    I’m new to all this.

@dangermonkey, it looks like your issue and Sims_VIP’s issue are not the same issue as the one that started this thread, so yes. Please start a new thread.

Sorry I do not possess the knowledge to differentiate the problems. This is all very new to me. Started new thread

I was following the thread thinking that I might get solution, but someone just interrupted with unrelated topic. Please has anyone got solution to this problem? I was reading the solution to the same problem in the following link, but the solution only apply to 2.x.x series since the table structure is different. See the link:
    https://www.clickonf5.org/2247/solution-database-upgrade-required/

See the screenshot of my Wp-option database table here which is different from the tutorial provided:
    https://woem.org/Screen_shot_2012-06-28.png

screen shot may help us or not?

@ynk, that might be it. ??

The database has changed but the relevant parts look the same. If you follow those instructions, I think you’d be alright. But I don’t this issue and I can’t really test it, so please, please, please back up the database first.

Another caveat, the one thing this solution presumes is that the database has in fact already been properly updated. That will be tough to verify.

Is following the method above going to cause an issue down the line? It seems like you are skipping an update by changing the databases version number.

I went ahead and renamed my wp-admin and wp-includes to -old variants and uploaded the new ones in their place so i could go back to the old versions if necessary.

I found that if the wp-includes was the new one i had to update, if it was the old one then it said it was up to date. Don’t know if that allows anyone to zero in on whats up.

Unfortunately its a clients site, so i can’t do more tests till late tonight.

nvm, mine was fixed by uploading the wp-settings.php file. its only 3kb bigger, but it seems to be the difference.

Guys I choose to come back I tell you what I found: I went thru the following link
    https://raphaellove.com/wordpress-upgrade-admin-lockout-fix-3-4-1/
My conclusion from what I found is that the problem was caused by
W3TotalCache plugin. The plugin has some files that are not located inside Wp-Content/plugins. You will still have the problem even if you delete the plugin. You have to manually delete all associated files that are installed in the blog root folder such as “dbcache”, advancecache” etc. Once you do that, you will be able to get back to admin section – after you clean up those cache file. I hope I have helped someone in the process. Have a nice day. God bess. (www.woem.org/blog)

Is following the method above going to cause an issue down the line?

Maybe, that is what my caveat was about.

Maybe, that is what my caveat was about.

Apologies, I see you answered that now
