    Hi WP Team,

I have a 9 wp sites in total, I upgraded to the new wp 3.5 on 3 of them before stopping.

It seems that the new WP does something weird to the drop down options in the back end (they seem fine on the front end). So for instance, when hover over say, “plugins” the drop down to pick installed, new, etc no longer shows up, you have to literally click it to get to any of the options.

And it seems to effect some plugins the same way. I thought perhaps it was the bullet proof security plugin compatibility issue but I actually disabled the plugins for the last upgrade and the problem still persist, no drop downs anywhere in the back end.

    Thanks guys,
    Sanaa

  • The .org site looks the same in FF and Safari. Do you have a link to the jacked up part?

Everything looks and works great in wp 3.4.2, I really want to just go back to that. <–how do I do that?

when you fix the issues and upgrade to 3.5.1 I’ll upgrade it then…

If you are using the BulletProof security plugin, then it is definitely the problem, *even if you disabled it*. Disabling it won’t affect the problem it creates in the wp-admin folder.

Basically, you need to re-activate that plugin, and put the .htaccess settings for it into “Default Mode” (I have not used the plugin myself and cannot give explicit instructions on how to do this).

But this is DEFINITELY your problem. The BulletProof security plugin has security rules which cause all admin-side javascript to break in WordPress 3.5. The author is coming out with an update, but until then, that is very, very likely to be the issue.

Note: This is NOT an issue with 3.5, and there will be no fix forthcoming for it. The problem lies in the plugin, and it will be fixed with an update from that plugin’s author.

the front ends DO NOT look the same.

Bitter – In FF everything is washed out and misplaced on safari is looks like it’s supposed to

MGF – In FF only sides are washed out but things look mostly the same. In safari it looks like it’s supposed with the gray back ground…

is there a way to upload a screenshot? I can show you the difference.

https://www.milagrogrande.org looks good for me as well on both Firefox and Chrome.

Drag and Drop problems as well.

I just updated to 3.5 and when I attempted to adjust my widgets,
I could not drag and drop them.

I deactivated and reactivated three themes including the new twenty twenty theme all with the same result.

When I try to drag and drop, the widgets seems to drop but not anywhere near the drop down widget area that I wish to place them and then they are stuck in place.

    Any solutions?

Your site, https://www.milagrogrande.org looks fine in FF, Safari and IE. Is there a specific place where it is messed up? You do have a few validation errors related to javascript, https://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3a%2f%2fwww.milagrogrande.org%2f that could cause problems.

I am using bullet proof but I’m not having THOSE problems listed on the the thread. And I disabled it when I uploaded the new wp version –the back end drop down problem still occurred.

You need to do more to disable it. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/post-editor-missing-in-wp-35-after-upgrade?replies=36

The plugin developer is working on a fix.

[edit] I need a bigger screen. A lot can happen in 4 minutes! :^)

Just updated to 3.5 for my site which uses WOO theme Delicious Magazine and it’s messed up the home page. Like The Bitter Optimist really wish I could undo the update!!!
Having read some of the earlier comments here I dread to think what else it has messed up.
My site is travelwithkat.com if anyone can help please!

    Samuel Woods for the WIN!!!

IT IS A BULLET PROOF PROBLEM — I went back to default mode and all is well in terms of drop downs and functions… and I had to deactivate BP for it to look right in FF.

I’ll upgrade the other sites to the new wp version once BP has updated their plugin which I hope isn’t long bc the three sites I already upgraded the new wp version to are living without and that makes me extremely paranoid even though I have a slew of other security plugins.

I really wish wp would find a way to make wp “mac” secure so we wouldn’t need all these security plugins. The amount of hacking attempts made on all my sites is just ridiculous.

Anyhoo, THANK YOU EVERY ONE for your input and suggestions and I apologize for waving the finger at the new WP version…

Cheers! *breathes deep and walks away from computer rubbing sore neck*

    Hi,

These things (jquery, probably) are not plugin related. I can confirm that.
I installed 3.5 first on an absolute vanilla installation and hardly a thing worked on the backend, none that used ajax calls, apparently. But I have not had any time to investigate properly. IN any case, it’s not theme or plugin related at all (I used the default plugin and all clean installation on my development blog).

If somebody finds the solution, please post it.

    Faithfully,

    PS:
I’m using Chrome and Firefox and both of these browsers exhibited the same issue, i.e nothing in the backend worked (can’t move, add or delete widgets for example).

Please start your own new topic.

Here’s a quick one from the widgets-page via the Chrome Java Console:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'length' of undefined jquery-1.6.2.js:627
    Uncaught TypeError: Object function ( selector, context ) {
// The jQuery object is actually just the init constructor 'enhanced'
    		return new jQuery.fn.init( selector, context, rootjQuery );
} has no method 'receiveMessage' la-click-and-share.js:2
Uncaught TypeError: Object [object Object] has no method 'on' load-scripts.php:325

    Sorry for the formatting.
