WordPress 3.5 – disastrous – don't upgrade

Perhaps it would be useful to inform before there are disasters with the update, it takes a long time to solve the problems after ??

There are no “disaster” associated directly with the core WordPress update. I updated 13 sites in about an hour without the slightest problem. All of the known issues are specific to the site, theme and/or plugins.

Did you make a pre-upgrade database backup? You cannot downgrade properly without it.

In my experience, upgrading to 3.5 is a disaster.

110% sure. The database was changed in WordPress 3.5.

If you do not have much time to solve problems, in my opinion, you should not upgrade to version 3.5.

First rule of securing your site against hackers: always keep WordPress updated. Cleaning up a hacked site is a far lengthier process than an upgrade.

And to add to the 3.5 mix – can’t access ‘Edit’ ‘Quick Edit’ functions in Posts or Pages. Just get completely text/image-free page. All else seems (ha !) OK at the mo…

I agree 3.5 has been horrendous compared to all the other updates… even if it is the plugin author’s fault WP should have a reasonable idea if there is a fair chance of the update stuffing up a website.

Actually, this update has been relatively uneventful. Bearing in mind that WP 3.5 has already been downloaded over 1 million times, the percentage of problems has been pretty small and – apart from one rather esoteric IIS issue – all due to poor plugins & theme code.

WP should have a reasonable idea if there is a fair chance of the update stuffing up a website.

And how to you propose this is done – given that there are almost 1700 themes and over 22,000 plugins hosted on www.ads-software.com alone? The potential permutations would be staggering. And that’s before taking into account all of the commercial themes & plugins.

Actually, what would help is for people like yourself to stop posting in multiple existing threads. It causes significant problems for the forum’s volunteers by increasing the workload and prevents us from being able to track issues by topic. Please post your own topic and stick to it.

Actually some of the core devs keep a local copy of the entire WordPress plugin directory on their hard drives just to try and make sure changes don’t break existing plugins.

I disabled all plugins. In the backend, after upgrading to WordPress 3.5, does not work insert images, change the status, add category, switch to html from view etc.. No links of the backend work for insert and edit articles.
What can I do?
