    The mysql extension is going to be deprecated but that doesn’t mean it will no longer work, it will probably be several years before it is removed as it is widely used.

    However, I will be releasing a new version within the next few months that uses the WP database abstraction layer.

    FYI, version 2.0.0 of the plugin has just been uploaded to the WP repository and all calls to mysql_real_escape_string have been removed and all data has been moved to the standard WP database structure, via the Options API.
