    Since upgrading to WordPress 3.9, I’ve experienced major problems with image editing in-post.

    Following is a list of issues I’m experiencing. This is my first time having to request ‘troubleshooting’ help in 9 years of using WordPress software.

    1. Default image class=’alignright” being added to all images.

    All images I upload now have a default class of alignright being added. Was this a part of the update? It is preferable to have no default settings for alignment added to an image.

    2. No icon to access advanced image settings.

    Here is a screenshot of this issue: https://i.imgur.com/nE6cano.jpg.

    I can no longer hover of an image in WordPress 3.9, see an editing icon, then click the icon to get access to advanced image editing features (adding captions, resizing, aligning left or right).

    Hovering the image produces no effect. Clicking the image only creates a border for manual dragging to increase/reduce image size.

    Clicking the image, then clicking one of the text align buttons (for a quick float left or right option) no longer works at all. The only way for me to now make the image go left of text is to go to the HTML editor, take out the annoying class=”alignright” attribute, add an align=”left” then vspace and hspace, like it is suddenly 2006 again.

    I’m hoping this is some sort of error and not the new default settings. I’m using Google Chrome and have cleared cache. As mentioned, I’ve been with WordPress for many years and love the software and movement of the community. This 3.9 update, however, has actually marked my first time being extremely frustrated after an update.

    Hopefully these two major issues can be resolved or someone can shed some light on the issues. Thanks in advance for any help and feedback.

  • I to have been having problems with image editing. Previously I could increase the padding around an individual image either vertically or horizontally to get the look I wanted. I don’t want to wrap the text only keep it to the left or right of the image. I thought the idea of an update was to improve things. this update has definitely not, and it has upset and frustrated a lot of users. Also if i had a site on a test URL I could remove the remove part of the url so that when the site went live you didn’t get a load of broken links. I know it can be done from the text view but it was easier to deal with the image while it was being input. Please can we have these features back A.S.A.P.

    I have a user reporting the image edit functionality in the post edit in visual mode no longer allows the user to delete an image or open the image editor;
    I have confirmed this loss of functionality;
    the site recently updated automatically to 3.9
    if this is a new feature to force my non-HTML users to use text mode, this is going to be a real problem;
    it looks like I need to shut off automatic updates as well.

    all the above and plus ??

    …unable to edit images at all after I activate my WPML plugin!

    am not satisfied wit the new WP 3.9 …

    Guys can you create your own threads here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

    If you’re having the same issue as the original poster you need only wait until someone comes along to help.

    1. Default image class=’alignright” being added to all images.

    This isn’t new. Once you pick an alignment, that setting stays “sticky” until you pick another one. Next time you add a new image, just select none for the alignment.

    Hovering the image produces no effect. Clicking the image only creates a border for manual dragging to increase/reduce image size.

    Hovering doesn’t trigger the icons, but clicking the image should. I tested it on one of my test blogs just now. For my test, I used WordPress 3.9 and the only plugin I have installed is Akismet. I tested using Chrome 34.0.1847.116 on Mac OS X 10.9.2 (Mavericks).

    I’m not sure if the issue is browser related, but it would be good for anyone having the trouble to note their browser and version in case you can spot a trend in that data.

    As for plugins, could one that you have installed be causing interference? You can test this by disabling all plugins temporarily and then checking for the image icon in the visual editor after that. This would be a helpful first troubleshooting step to rule out a conflict from a plugin.

    @esmi, I don’t require assistance ?? I was answering the original question.

    I had the same issue as point number 2 by MisterMickey (No icon to access advanced image settings.) but I discovered the icons appear in Firefox 28.0 but do not appear in Chrome 34.0.1847.116.

    Grrrrrr – having the same issue with images — deactivated all plugins, tried different themes. So so frustrated…..

    @Designssimply. Thank you. The class=”alignright” attribute did automatically set after the update. You are absolutely correct about its ‘sticky setting’ status.

    For the bigger issue, icon not appearing when hovering OR clicking an image for editing, here is what worked for us.

    1. All of our sites have a cache. We manually cleared each cache.

    2. The plugins were again all deactivated.

    3. Image-editing in two of the sites immediately worked fine after reactivating all plugins. The new image editing interface is very nice/sleek/efficient :).

    One other site still did not resolve, but a problematic/incompatible plugin turned out to be the culprit.

    So what worked for us is clearing out our caching plugins, THEN deactivating plugins, then reactivating.

    Yay!

    Thanks for posting back with the details. ??

    Thank you for your feedback and help as well, designsimply.

    3.9 is different indeed, but not broken. Double clicking does launch basic editing capabilities…albeit weaker. But at least basic position/word-wrap alignment can be defined. Meanwhile sizing can be facilitated using the edit screen or by grabbing the image size handle. And word wrap is facilitate by grabbing the image, holding on, and placing the image in the desired text location using the text placement indicator. Different indeed, but the destination is the same.

    I am also having major problems. It took me almost 45 minutes to upload 3 photos for a post that I need to complete and I kept getting an error. Even uploading to Flickr and inserting it manually gave me nothing but a blank box. The photo editor stinks too but right now I just want to be able to finish my post and the others that are due. I totally disagree that it’s not broken. If we can’t write our posts because the images don’t go into the post then yes, it is indeed broken. Also the link insert button doesn’t work either, I had to insert links manually. That’s not that big of a deal but still a PITA
