I am missing the second row of options in my visual editor. I am unable to select style sheets, change text color, etc. on posts and pages. I have deactivated all plugins but that did not fix the problem. Did anyone find a way to resolve this. It makes editing extremely difficult. I don’t want to do everything in the text editor.

    Thanks.

I have deactivated all plugins but that did not fix the problem.

    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.
    – If above steps do not resolve the issue, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

I tried your suggestions with no luck. What is even stranger is that I have another site on the same server where I am using the same theme and plugins and that site has the second line of options in the visual editor. I tried reinstalling wordpress on the two corrupt sites and that didn’t work either. I am totally stumped.

    – What theme are you using?

    – meanwhile try reviewing this codex: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors

I am using two different themes. One theme is tempura which I have another site also using with no problems. The other theme is evolve. I tried using a different browser and the results were the same. I downloaded the tinyMCE advanced editor to get some options back. It loads improperly because the second line of options can’t be accessed. Very strange. Do you have any other suggestions? The fact that it is the same in the other browser suggests it isn’t a browser or javascript issue. Thanks for your help. I fear I have spent too much time on this.

    Evolve theme:
    ask here for support: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/evolve

    “tempura” theme:
this theme is not to be found in the WP theme repo. So, I suggest you contact the theme’s vendor.

Thanks Tara, it isn’t the theme. I have another site using Tempura without this issue.

The toggle button was on. Ugh. So simple! I had no idea what that button was. Never used it before. I guess it’s on by default when you upgrade. Thanks for your help though @tara.

Glad you got it sorted ??

I have this problem too. I do not have any kind of “toggle button.” I have deactivated all plugins, and that did not make more icons appear. The theme is “Clear” by Solostream. I am ready to have all the bells-and-whistles this part of the wordpress working.
