I accidentally updated a site to WP 5.0 and now the SVG images are not showing on the page. They still work in the media browser.

I can see that the plugin isn’t ready yet for WP 5.0 but maybe you could tell me if this is to be expected right now or not? It could be theme related too.

  • About a month or so ago – I also installed this plugin – then I got a php error message and i uninstalled the plugin and since then, my svg images dont show up in the media library, they do however show up in the front.

    Hi @max-beta,

    Sorry for the late reply.

Whilst I’ve not specifically tested the plugin with the 5.0 releases there’s no reason it shouldn’t work. It has been tested with the plugin and a couple of fixes for the media library were put in place.

That said if your media browser is working ok then it shouldn’t be an issue with the plugin. Safe SVG doesn’t affect the front end of your site in any way so that’ll be theme related.

In regards to compatibility, I’m planning to sit down and work out any bugs there may be in the next few weeks as changes to Gutenberg slow down.

@mommaroodle, if you’ve removed the plugin then there won’t be any styles to fix the SVG previews in the media library and that’ll be what’s causing your issue.

If you want some help getting the plugin working, please open a support ticket of your own and describe the PHP error you got, someone can then help you find a resolution for it.

    Cheers,
    Daryll

I still need to use my svgfix class which adds auto width.

    Hi @max-beta,

If you mean you need to use that class on the front end, then that is to be expected. Safe SVG doesn’t interfere with the front end of the site in any way and is purely there to allow people to upload SVGs within the admin area.

How SVGs are handled on the front end is completely down to the theme authors.

Hopefully, that clears things up a bit.

    Regards,
    Daryll

I can give you a login to one of my Avada demo sites if you like to try it yourself.

It used to work fine and at one point it stopped working.

In illustrator I can export SVG as responsive or uncheck that. I’ve tried both types.
