WordPress 5.0 — Adds mistakes, hides tools, what a pain!

  • ADDS MISTAKES: I draft text in Word. The text in my Word doc comes from several formats, from web pages and emails, as well as original typing. WordPress 5.0 chaotically disregards the spacing between words from text copied over from Word — I am literally having to spend half an hour combing through the WordPress post and restoring dozens of spaces. Need I say, this was NOT a problem in the previous version of WordPress.

    HIDES TOOLS: I don’t want to have to page back and forth between the block and document sidebars when I need to use one of the features, like adding a category or tag.

    I am really unhappy with this update.

    The issue with pasting text from Microsoft Word is known. Microsoft Word copies a lot more into the clipboard than just the text, and the formatting information causes problems. It’s being worked on.

    A workaround would be to paste the text from Word into a plain text editor, like Notepad, and then copy it back from there before pasting it into WordPress. This will avoid the messed up spacing of words.

    Alternatively, consider writing in WordPress from the start. It’s an editor designed for writing.

    As for the Document and Block sidebars, generally speaking, when you select a block by clicking on it, the sidebar will automatically switch to the Block setting, so that you can adjust that block. You only ever have to switch to the Document sidebar, and I generally leave that until the end, when I’m about the publish the post. It’s not something I need to refer to a lot during the actual writing.

    Какая жесть. Я вставляю тексты из ворд, уже отформатированные и полностью готовые. Думаю, в самом вордпрессе мало кто пишет – ведь текст десятки раз надо перепроверить в разных сервисах – на уник, на спам, на то-се, а не просто накатать наскоряк в редакторе ВП и опубликовать.

    Новая редакция сильно усложняет работу с движком, зато скачивание плагинов со старым редактором резко увеличилось. Это о многом говорит.

    Плюс – если бы к неудобнейшему новому редактору я как-то могла бы привыкнуть, то к тому, что исчезла транслитерация ссыылок поста, привыкнуть нельзя. Их теперь вручную переписывать? Они на кириллице отображаются, несмотря на все настройки и плагины для транслитерации.

    Oh yes, pasting from Word has always been a problem, in the old editor or the new one.

    The new editor is somewhat better, especially after some of the fixes in 5.0.2, so pasting from Word there should be much improved.
