I got notification that my site was upgraded to 5.1.1 and then noticed my gallery images are gone. I’m not sure if the upgrade was ‘standard’ or the managed hosting company does something weird.
They looked through the backups and didn’t find the images in the /wp-content/gallery folder as expected even before the update. Is there some rewrite trickery going on?

What else might have caused this?

    Hi @gmisura,

I am really sorry to hear of the encountered problem. That’s pretty weird one since NextGen Gallery doesn’t have any triggers that would allow deleting all the images or galleries with newer versions of WP and that’s not a known WP problem so far since this is the first time I hear of it.

The first thing that I would actually do is to contact the hosting provider to make sure that everything is fine from their side and to ask them for a restore.

They’ve looked through the backups and don’t find the pictures there either.
Are they supposed to be in /wp-content/gallery or is there another location?

    Hi @gmisura,

Yes, by default the images are stored in “wp-content/galleries” folder but you can check where you are storing NextGen galleries from “Gallery -> Other Options -> Image Options -> Where would you like galleries stored?”

Because it has been a month or more since your last reply, I am going to mark this as resolved as I assume you have found a solution. Please feel free to reply again if you still have questions.
