    Hi,

All of our websites are in WordPress version 5.4.2. We received an email from Wordfence indicating we should upgrade to 5.5.

We know the importance of new WordPress versions. However, there are still some plugins adapting their compatibility to this new version.

Question: Does Wordfence has found any critical security issues with version 5.4.2 that it makes URGENT to upgrade to version 5.5?

Of course, we want to be safe. However, we don’t want to make a fast decision.

    Thanks for your time.

  • Thanks for reaching out.

With any release of WordPress where a big change is implemented (like the automatic updates feature in this one) we usually recommend holding off for a week or two to see if issues arise. Even if the software is strenuously QA tested there is always the possibility of unanticipated behavior that causes problems no one imagined. I would hold at version 5.4.2 for another 2 weeks to see if the bugs smooth out or if a new update is released to address any problems. We believe that keeping your site up to date is very important, but waiting a few weeks to see if problems come up is completely fine, unless a security fix was included, of course. We wrote a blog post detailing our thoughts about the release which you might find helpful.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks a lot for your complete reply.

We will wait some days before upgrading to 5.5.

    Have a great day!
