I am disappointed with WordPress 5.7. The block marker is still not in place. This was one of the most useful features i WordPress, but now it is gone. This marker showed clearly which block is active and then it makes it less likely that you make a mistake, either by editing or deleting a wrong block. This marker makes WordPress more userfriendly.

    Why has it been removed?

    What is “the block marker”?
Feel free to open a ticket if you think there is a bug: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/

Block marker is not a bug. It is a function that was a part of WordPress earlier but it was removed in a recent version. This function marks which block is active. The active block gets a vertical hyphen on the left side to show which block is active. It makes life so much easier and it prevents the user from editing or deleting the wrong block. Why was this removed?

Have you tried the “Spotlight mode”, which will dim all other blocks and let you concentrate on the currently active block?

I just tried Spotlight mode now and I did not know it existed. Thank you for pointing this out. The problem is the implementation – the text dims for the blocks that are not active. The old way was far better – it was a small vertical line on the left side of the block. Dimming the rest of the block gives you less overview of all the blocks when you are editing a post.
