    Hello!

A friend of mine has “accidently updated” to wordpress 5.9.

He is running a website with Eclipse Photo theme that uses GT3 Gallery on his pages.

After the update, he is unable to drag and drop images to rearrange the order they are shown. You can click the 4-way arrows and drag the image, but it doesn’t snap in and update the order.

I’m not the creator of the site and i don’t have much knowledge of it’s origin. I just wonder if it is a quick fix, or if i should attempt a downgrade of wordpress.

Wordpress reports that the theme is up to date. I don’t know if thats the case? Theme is version 2.7

After a bit of searching around, i’ve noticed WP issue #54902 (https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/54902)

I guess GT3 is making use of the same functionality.

    Hi there!
We’ve tested the drag and drop functionally in Gutenberg, it works fine in WP 5.9

Hey! Thank you for the reply! Much appreciated!

    Hmm okay.

I am unsure why it doesn’t work then. Dev console is showing a jquery error in the click event related to “add_image_from_wordpress_library_popup” is not a function.

The only thing changed is that he upgraded WP.

I am able to drag the images by hovering and click+dragging the 4way button. But it just returns back to its original position when I release the mouse button, and no reordering happens.

Are you able to tell me whether version 2.7 is the right version of the “Eclipse Photo” theme for WP 5.9? The owner of the site is not tech savvy at all, and has no clue about the origin of the theme as the site apparently was setup by an old colleague of his who has since passed away. And he has no recollection of purchasing the theme either since that was all done by his colleague.

It’s quite a mess. I guess if everything else fails I will just try and revert the WP version to the old one and see if that fixes it.

I would love if I could get some help with what’s going on. Perhaps help figure out if he has paid for the theme so we could set it up again correctly.

The installation also appears to be missing the GT3 page builder add on. Not sure if it is normally required for the theme to function properly

    Thank you again!

We are not Eclipse Photo theme developers, that’s why we can’t answer your question. Maybe there is an issue with that specific theme? It’s better to contact them directly. You can easily test our plugin on any default theme.

Oh i didn’t know ?? I assumed you were a design/theme collective of some kind. Apologies!

I’m not sure how to get in contact with the author of the theme. The only way i’ve found so far is through the envato market support form. But it requires me to provide a purchase code that my friend obviously has no clue what is or where to find.

I guess that leaves me with 2 options, either downgrade WP or re-purchase the theme.

    Thank you for your time!

It’s OK. Can we close this thread?

Unless you have a way for me to get in contact with the author of the theme then yes.

Please contact the theme developer directly via Envato market. We can’t assist you in this case.

Hello. I am having the same issue in all of my websites, and I don’t think this is due to bad plugin or theme.

I deactivated all plugins and activated the new 20-22 theme, and still cannot drag and move order of photos when editing the gallery.

I thought that perhaps the problem was because my pages were created in Classic Mode. So I started a brand new, empty page on Gutenberg and still cannot change the order of the images when in “Edit Gallery” mode.

I tried on Safari and Chrome and it’s the same issue in both browsers: I am unable to edit the order of the images in a Gallery after updating to WordPress 5.9

    Thank you!

I’m having the same issue. I don’t use Guttenburg and I can no longer drag images to reorder them.

I have the same problem. Very frustrating…

WordPress has recognised this problem and they will fix it in version 5.9.1

@ishubhamraj Thanks for replying and being part of the support community. Please do not link back to your site; if you want to offer the rollback solution, it can be simply added to the text of your reply. What you’re doing looks spammy and we don’t want to encourage folks to do spammy things.

As noted, folks, this will be addressed in 5.9.1.

@sterndata understood! Posting the solution here.

For now, issue can be fixed by reverting to WordPress 5.8.3 by following steps below:

    1. Navigate to Plugins > Add New.
    2. Search for “WP Downgrade | Specific Core Version” plugin. Install and activate this plugin.
    3. Navigate to Settings > WP Downgrade.
    4. Put 5.8.3 in WordPress Target Version field and click Save Changes.
    5. Click on “Up-/Downgrade Core” button. This will take you to WordPress Updates page.
    6. Click on “Re-install version 5.8.3” button.
    7. Done! Now you are on WordPress 5.8.3. You can now rearrange your gallery again.

This bug is causing a lot of problems. But before downgrading, it would be good to know when WordPress 5.9.1 will be deliverd. Does anyone know?
