WordPress Admin area temporarily disabled

Been doing some updates to my theme recently, and received this message when trying to login to WordPress Admin:

“WordPress administrator area access disabled temporarily due to widespread brute force attacks.”

Been that way for a good 6 or so hours…searched high and low for a solution, with no luck. This is also showing up for other subdomain wordpress installs we have as well. Any ideas? Is this a built in security feature of WordPress or is my web host giving this message?
