    Hi there,
I just got this new client who wants help fixing his WordPress site. It’s a pretty old version and there are a few bugs on the site.
When I logged in I found that most of the admin pages are blank. The navigation is visible on the left side, but the rest of the pages are completely blank. Anyone know what this bug is?
I’m going to disable the plugins on a copy of the site and see if that helps.

    Thanks

  • Suggest that you take a full file backup and a database backup.

If you are running a localhost, install a copy there, configure your hosting for the identical URL as your client uses, and you will be running as near as possible an identical copy to your client’s site. (Of course this means that you can no longer access the client’s site from that computer).
Then you can freely experiment, upgrading etc. You can be much more effective when you can experiment without risk. You can do this too if you have your own hosting, but I have never coached anyone into setting this up, ask if you want to do this.

I would be getting the old site going as is, prior to any updates, then update progressively. If you need support from paid themes or plugins, this can be tricky as they were probably not in the name of your client, at worst you may have to pay again.

My other advice is “google is your friend”, when you get an error message just google it.

Also suggest that you benchmark the old site, also document the things you need to fix.
