• I’m about to embark on a project for a client. They want a site with a blog, editable pages, etc. I think WordPress would be a good fit for it, HOWEVER, the big wrench in the works is that they want a store for the site. These are my options, as I see it:

    1. Use WP with a plug-in
    2. Use WP, integrate it with Zen Cart
    3. Use WP, and a third-party store somewhat removed for the store

Am I missing anything? What have people done in the past?

I’m a complete e-Commerce newb, so I’d appreciate some suggestions.

    1. Use WP with a plug-in

this plugin is very popular and integrates well with your current theme

Do you have any experience with it? Any idea about security (ie. do I have to worry about it being hacked, more than any of the other options)?

It seems like that plug-in requires PayPal. Does it dump the buyer to PayPal when they make a purchase, or is it more seamless?

I’ve set it up for several folks – security has not been a problem.
It does dump the buyer to paypal but I always set it up so when they are finished at paypal they are redirected back to a certain page in the blog – like a “thank you” page or product page, etc.

Hmmm. That may be a deal breaker for my client, since they aim to have a very clean, professional face.

Any experience with the Shopp plug-in? That seems to be one of the other majors.

never used anything else that worked well
    have not tried that one
