    Hi WordPress people,

I’ve a request from a client today asking about Adwords gclid tracking where Google Adwords adds a gclid code to a URL (e.g. https://www.mysite.co.uk/?gclid=123xyz).

This is erroring out on the website and we get a 404.

Does anyone know away around this? Does anyone have any server side code which they can share or is there a plugin which can help?

Google helpfully mentioned this on their help page:

A small percentage of websites do not allow arbitrary URL parameters and serve an error page when auto-tagging is turned on. Please consult your webmaster to find out if this is the case or turn on auto-tagging and do a test by simply clicking your ad. If the link to your site works, then you can use auto-tagging. If you are getting an error, you’ll need to turn auto-tagging off from your AdWords account. Then, ask your webmaster to allow arbitrary URL parameters before turning it back on.

Hope this might help and look forward to hearing your thoughts…
