    Hello, Developer Community,
I have been working for Hermes Pharma since 3 months which is a WordPress site but the SEO guy is insisting we should switch to Shopify for speed and performance. For canonical issues he is suggesting some parts on WordPress like blogs and some pages. But he is insisting we launch homepage on Shopify and Ecommerce on Shopify.

So I’m having hard time deciding what should be done, I’ve never done Shopify and I’ve heard plugins are better over there. So guys I wanna hear some great insights on it. You can check the webpage and suggest me based on the webpage too.

    Thanks in advance

If you want to get great insights regarding Shopify, you’re better off asking in a forum dedicated to Shopify. I’m unsure how well both Shopify and WP can exist on the same server. Perhaps if they are each installed in their own sub-directories they can peacefully coexist. I’m merely speculating, I don’t know for sure.

FWIW, I’d be leery of any SEO “expert” that is adamant that someone use any specific CMS system. Just sayin’, I imagine you have no choice in SEO consultants.

    Additionally…

Just a heads-up that since the two must be hosted at two different places (Shopify being a SaaS platform), you can’t have them both using the same hostname. Only one can use the root domain hermespharma.ie, the other must be at a subdomain (eg blog.hermespharma.ie, shop.hermespharma.ie, etc).

This is a basic technical requirement irrespective of which software pair we’re talking about (or even if it’s the same software powering both sites): as long as they’re hosted at two different places, they can’t share the same hostname.

(I’m aware it’s possible to proxy one hostname to another, but I don’t believe we’re talking about that level of infrastructure knowledge here.)

I’m currently evaluating whether switching from WordPress to Shopify is worth it. While Shopify is great for speed and simplicity, WordPress offers better SEO control and customization. With good hosting, Cloudflare CDN, and popular caching plugins, you can easily achieve fast performance on WordPress too.

Also, consider the cost — the amount you’d spend on Shopify could be invested in optimizing your WordPress site with services like speed optimization from RankTiS.

Sticking to WordPress seems more flexible, especially for blogs and content-heavy sites. Any insights from others who’ve made the switch?
