WordPress and Shopify subdomain

I am a digital artist and have a WordPress site with ecommerce plugin installed. I need WordPress for the advanced content possibilities, pages I have created with unique text etc to go along with the products offered.

Now I also want to be able to include a drop shipping operation and the best way is through Shopify because the drop shipper (a print on demand company) has an app that works with Shopify.

I’m quite sure the two (WordPress and Shopify) can’t be integrated so I will keep them separate and tell visitors to check out the other site and vice versa. My host recommends I create a subdomain on my domain for the Shopify drop shipping operation, such as shop.mydomain.com.

Will this provide the separation I need because I don’t want the user to be confused about their shopping carts and the general ordering and buying process. They would be able to buy some items on WordPress and more on my Shopify account. Would anyone suggest separate domain names in this case, instead of a subdomain? I have no experience in these issues. I’d rather not have to go the separate domain unless it’s recommended.
