Not trying to start anything here but, I just added WordPress to one site and I noticed Google has dropped a lot of pages form this domain. Am I being paranoid? Reason why I ask is that this site has a PR pf 5 and has been very good in terms of google listings since 2001. All of a sudden a few weeks after adding WordPress, kapow! Is Google banning non Blogger / competitive installs?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I have #1 rankings for several WP blogs .. and frankly .. I wont use another blog due to the WP secret sauce ….
You most likely changed your site density by “adding” WP to it.
If you posted in WP similar keywords or phrases that you would use in your site …. I would suspect that those pages that were lost were “over SEO’ed ” and that would be a good reason that Google or any SE would drop them.
SE’s view “archives” in a very interesting way…….
You can’t SEO a blog the same way you do a static site.

I have to agree with you – WP is great for Google SERP (Search Engine Rank Position). My site comes very high in Google for many search terms as well.

Google did a re-index a couple of days ago and this affected a lot of sites – I think the WordPress install was co-incidental.

To ensure you get a good Google SERP for your site I would advise:
1. Ensure your theme validates (using the w3c validator)
2. Choose your WP category names to match your target keywords/keyphrases
3. Ensure your Permalink structure contains the %Postname% (and as little else as possible)
4. Use your Keywords/keyphrases in your post titles
5. Develop a linkage strategy to increase relevant inward and outward links
6. And, get your blog listed in directories like dmoz and/or LookSmart
