I spent a couple of weeks theming out my blog to look like part of the rest of my website. I read all the documentation and watched several YT vids to get comfortable with how to use the new WP Blocks Editor. I installed the “Create Block Theme” plug-in by WordPress and went on my way. (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/create-block-theme/)

Well after I got the theme to look the way I wanted it to I was going to EXPORT the theme yesterday evening. As I hit the EXPORT button it proceeded to tell me to “Save user changes (including Templates and Global Styles) to the theme.” So I did. Next thing it said, it was going to reload the browser. Lo and behold everything vanished from my eyes. The custom header I created, empty (deleted). A reusable template piece, empty (deleted). The layouts for a single-page post and a couple of others, completely gone. I am absolutely crushed. I spent so much time for ALL my work to disappear. And yet there is NO revision history to roll back on. I have a feeling there is no way to recover this. Has anyone else run into this?

This is the menu within the editor to export out the theme –?https://imgur.com/a/pKvOyPH

Hello! I’m sorry you’re having a poor experience; did you check if the zip that should’ve been generated when exporting the changes was downloaded on your computer?

I didn’t even get a chance to export to a ZIP document when it erased my template layouts and pattern modules.

As long as I never hit the SAVE CHANGES btn and just export to ZIP it seems the custom theme is not altered. I am able to re-import the theme under a diff name without an issue and the theme functions as it should. If I take another step and disable the WP plug-in for theme, it still works. Is there any further documentation on what the SAVE CHANGES does exactly because that is a HUGE issue.
