WordPress Blog taking way too long 1-2 minutes to load

I would bet it is your server.. it took about 4 seconds before it started to load for me.. then it popped right up.

If it is still taking too long for you.. I would suggest deactivating all your plugins one by one and then activate them one by one. As you activate each one.. try and load your page. 9 times out of 10 it is a plugin that is slowing down a wordpress site.

Could a sudden spark in traffic be the cause of the issue of very slow loading till I have error of establishing to database connection?

Because it is Valentines Day and I usually experience significantly high traffic during this time.

Have you tried:

– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Esmi, thank you for the information. As of this morning, things seemed to go back to normal already and the pages are loading as usually.

Last night, there are times when I get message like “Error establishing Database connection” and then after that it would take unusually long to load up a page.

Before and after this issue, I did not make any changes in the site. The only thing is that yesterday I was getting a sudden increase of traffic due to Valentine Day and I was suspecting it to be the cause of it.

The server could well have been struggling with the increased traffic. If you anticipate the same increase in traffic next year, now would be a good time to start looking at more resilient hosting. Perhaps even consider upgrading to a VPS if the traffic warrants it.
