I am wondering if I could get some help me as I am getting in a right mess in trying to get WordPress up & running. What I have done.

Firstly I went to Godaddy and registered a Domain name mikemullett.me

Then I went to BlueHost and set up an account using the Domain name registered with Godaddy i.e. mikemullett.me

With the BlueHost configuration manager I installed WordPress 2.7 using the Simple Scrips software.
I then tried to somehow run this to set up a WordPress Account but could find no way of doing this. the email that SimpleScripts sent me just points to a Godaddy page (mikemullett.me)

So I then went to WordPress to set up an account and successfully did this.

My aim is to link all this together so I can have my WordPress blog being hosted by BlueHost using my Godaddy domain name – but not currently clear where anything is sitting – help.

I really got the impression that you could run WordPress from BlueHost as it has installed the WordPress software?

Is anybody able to point me in the direction of understanding all this and getting my ‘ducks in a row’?

    Thanks, Mike

  • You need to obtain BlueHost’s DNS’s from BlueHost, go into your GoDaddy acct and update the DNS’s for your domain to point to the BlueHost DNS’s, then find the setting in your BlueHost acct to tell BlueHost what domain to watch for. So you’re setting GoDaddy to make the pitch, and BlueHost to make the catch.

I’m not familiar with BlueHost’s “WordPress account”, although a lot of hosting services offer some type of WordPress pushbutton easy-install, but I personally haven’t used them. You can install WordPress manually, by manually creating your own unique mysql database name (which returns a server name to you), a username/pw for it, and unique table prefixes, which you load into the config file. This way, you could even run several WordPress installations in one account from different directories. So by a “WordPress account” I’d guess your looking for your mysql database name, mysql server, and required username/password combination.

    1. At Godaddy, update your domain’s name servers to point to the Bluehost name servers–see https://helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?id=1&mod_id=2&x=

    2. After the domain resolves (several hours to several days) then install WordPress at Bluehost using Installing WordPress instructions or use Fantastico

    3. Once installed read and use WordPress Backups.

Thanks both. I have taken the first step by updating the Godaddy name servers to point to BlueHost, as 1. above.

I will wait for the name to resolve. I have already installed WordPress within Bluehost using SimpleScripts – will I have to repeat this???

    Thanks again.

If you installed correctly, it will come up when dns resolves

    Thanks all. Now resolved.
