Looking for the right place for my question sorting out a problem that I may have caused with Jetpack.

I had difficulty sorting out WordPress .com vs .org. Think I’ve got that straight now but the site itself seems partially confused. It sends email to newly registered users with links to .com. I have tried to keep .com out of sight of expected unsophisticated users likely to be more confused than I am.

Initially after Jetpack installation the WordPress.com primary site was a never to be completed WordPress.com site. I eventually changed that to susanstewart.org as it should be and a few things started to work better.

Email to approve comments works fine, including internal links. Email to users to complete registration works.

What’s broken is emal to new users about Confirm your Subscription and Confirm your Subscription to New Comments. Also, nobody appears to get email about new posts.

I’d look into the user/subscriber database but I don’t know how to find it. Jetpack claims there’s only on subscription that snuck in while I had subscription popups turned on. Nothing anywhere about actual users subscriptions.

I know the messages aren’t falling in a spam filter because so far I’m my own multiple test users. That’s indeed one of my problems. I can’t tell that the new post messages are even being sent. I suspect the underlying problem is WordPress.com getting into the process where I don’t need or want it.

When I registered two test users, in addition to the users getting their password setting messages, they got email with links to WordPress.com that were non-functional and would be confusing to the website users.

    Thanks.

    Bob

No responses. I’ll simplify my question. I’d delete this if I could.

Thanks, Joseph B. That was helpful. Now I have two problems to sort out.

I’d avoided the idea of my site’s locally registered users having a wordpress.com account, believing that was unnecessary and confusing. Sounds like it’s necessary and somewhat automatic, but is it visible to be confusing? I expect the site to be used by people easily confused by layers of complexity. That includes my sister, the site owner and blogger, and her readers. When I installed Jetpack, I was perplexed by the wordpress.com login showing up to confuse users who thought they’d signed up only for my small site.

Having shut off everything that seemed to let wordpress.com intrude and confuse, I now see that I probably shut off exactly what I needed for the the automated emails for new blog posts and comments, although oddly enough the comment-related emails work and the post related don’t It seems half working, which confuses me.

I’ve been a programmer for a very long time, but I get lost in the layers and logins needed to run this website.

    Thanks again.

    Bob
