WordPress can’t create folders in wp-content/plugins and themes

  • Hello,

    I can’t install anymore automatically plugins and themes on my server. I used to do it before and am unable to see what can cause the problem now. What I find strange is that when I try to update a plugin, WordPress delete the old one but complain to not be able to write the new one. It says he can’t create the plugin folder. I have no problem when I upgrade my WordPress install automatically or when I upload pictures to insert in my articles. I have this config :

    Ubuntu 8.04
    php 5.2.4
    apache2.2.8
    suphp 0.6.2
    mysql 5.0.5

    I’ve tried to activate debug in WP with define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);, but I don’t see any message. Do you know how I can find what can be the cause of my problem ? Thank you.

  • You need to make sure the folder is writable (chmod). Ask your host if you don’t know how to do this.

    How can he delete the old plugin if it is not writable ? And suphp was supposed to handle all those stuffs, no ? so perhaps a problem with my suphp install ? Anyway, I’ve still tried to put 777 for wp-content and plugins folders so anyone can write in it, the problem remains.
