• I just moved a site from one domain to another and now category links are all 404. I have flushed the rewrite rules, recreated the .htaccess file but still it throws up 404.

Weird thing is that if I delete .htaccess file, then the posts are still accessible by domain.com/postname/ and when I save permalinks, then it is created there. So can it be the case it is using some other .htaccess file? Possibly some fallback that I am not aware of?

Tag pages work fine. Also I am using a custom slug for category “cat” and not the default “category” but reverting to the default doesn’t solve anything. Any clues?

Edit: I saw Ipstenu’s sticky and found that Advanced Permalinks are known to have a problem with WP 3.1, so I disabled it and recreated by permalinks but still no joy. What did I miss?

Yes, I have tried Twenty ten with zero plugins. Issue persists. I believe it has something to do with a fault in the database. Here is something that I think would help – https://img6.imagebanana.com/img/thuy7coc/Selection_030.png (Its on the category page)

Do you want me to turn sql queries to save and then get back with those? Sorry I didn’t understand completely what debug info you want me to get with the debug bar.

Posts, Page permalinks work fine, only categories & tags don’t. So that proves mod_rewrite is enabled. Right?

Make a copy of your website locally and test it. I am assuming there is either something wrong with your .htaccess file or the database.

Seems like your attachment rules are taking over your category rules(maybe because they don’t exist in your database).

Also, try replacing rewrite_rules with the _transient ones but do a database backup first.

The problem was fixed itself when the site owner deleted .htaccess file and resaved permalinks. Weird but that fixed it.

I am marking this as resolved!

Thanks for all the help. ??
