• [ Moderator note: moved to Fixing WordPress. ]

    Hi! My name is Eliott.

I have created my wordpress.com blog and bought domain on there. I then decided to move to .org. So I subscribed to one month of bluehost to try it out. I had the one-click install of wordpress. But after that, Bluehost is forcing me to buy a theme (and they are expensive). I was previously using the free shoreditch one, but I cannot find it anymore. And without theme, there is no way I found to get to www.ads-software.com, my website is still wordpress.com….
The plugins also seem to be very expensive, I thought you could find good ones for free here…

I am quite frustrated right now and really do not know what to do. Could you please help me through the steps to get to www.ads-software.com? I would be forever grateful,

    Thanks,
    Eliott

  • @eliottka – If you log into your WordPress dashboard and then go under Appearance > Themes you should see you have a few WordPress Twenty series themes installed and available to be used. You are welcome to use one of those, or you can go under Appearance > Themes > Add New and browser through the themes available from the WordPress themes directory.

You should not be forced to purchase a theme from Bluehost; I suspect it is just a poorly worded advertisement that implies you need to buy one from them. There may be additional services and support they are offering as well with that purchase although I am not a Bluehost client and therefore I have no real idea what they offer in their “one-click install” of WordPress.

As to your “Shoreditch” theme I am finding it here: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/shoreditch/ which means if you go under Appearance > Themes > Add New … Search for “Shoreditch” you should see it available to be installed and activated.

Thanks! But the trouble is, my dashboard is still on wordpress.com, and I cannot install plugins, would you know how I could solve this pb?
    Thanks again!

You are going to have to migrate your data, files, and domain. I suggest reading through this guide, hopefully it will clear up some confusion: https://move.wordpress.com/.

I have read through this guide. But do I need to wait 60 days before going to www.ads-software.com?
    I cannot transfer the files…

Where are you getting this 60 days thing from? When I say transfer the files I mean you have to export the data and import on the new site while the old one is still up so that it can download the images, is that not something you can do?

    @eliottka

    before going to www.ads-software.com

Just to clarify, www.ads-software.com does not provide hosting for sites, it provides the software for other people to use their own sites on their own hosts. The WordPress philosophy and bill of rights permit people to use WordPress software for any reason they want, without any enforcement over legality or illegality. We leave that up to the web hosts.

The link that @csloisel posted will give you the information on how to move your site from wordpress.com to your self-hosted site on Bluehost. Here’s another article regarding that from bluehost help:
    https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/wp_migrate

If you are referring to the domain name, the 60 day period is only for a full registrar transfer and it only applies for the first 60 days after you bought the domain.

You can also keep your domain registered at wordpress.com and point the domain name servers to bluehost. This method does not have a waiting period and can be done at any time.

I’m also struggling with integrating from wordpress.com to www.ads-software.com using Bluehost. I ended up just sucking it up and purchasing a theme, but I can’t find a place to import my files to the new Bluehost site.
