• When I try to post WordPress crashes after I hit the publish button and the browser gives the “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” screen. When I go back to my blog the post has been published. This only happens when I publish. Loading media or changing settings in WordPress works fine. I’ve had this problem since V2.6. I am now running V.2.8.3

I’ve been through several installations and I don’t think it’s WordPress but something with my database that messes up WordPress. I have run checks on all the tables in the database and everything comes up ok.

  • more likely a plugin messing with you
try deactivating one by one until you find it

I had tried deactivating the plugins before and it made no difference. I just tried again and the same result.

The first time I installed WP it was around v.2.1 or so. That stated to mess up after awhile and I upgraded to V.2.6 I’m not sure if that messed the database up or not.

have you tried running a repair on the db tables with phpmyadmin?

I’ve done repairs to a few of the tables before but not all of them. I’ll backup and try that.

As I was going through the database I’ve noticed some tables that don’t appear on the list of wordpress db tables. Some are plugins that I know of but some are not. I’m running mysql vedrsion 4.1.14 and WP v. 2.8.3

    wp_linkcategories
    wp_post2cat
    wp_subscribe2

Should these be in the db?

    yes
the 1st are wordpress and the 3rd is the subscribe 2 plugin

I thought that the first two were from older versions of wp and not used in the 2.8 db. I went ahead and removed them from the db to see if it would help and I repaired all the tables.

The site still crashes but it seems to take less time to recover now. I backed up the tables before I dropped them. Should I put them back or leave them out. I went back and check the site’s content and could not find anything missing or not working after dropping the tables.
