After upgrading to WordPress 2.1 I get the following error message on the right side of my blog:

WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ” at line 1]
    SELECT cat_id, cat_name FROM

I would like to remedy the problem, but haven’t the slightest idea of what the error message means. My blog is hosted on bluehost.com, where I just upgraded to WordPress 2.1 by clicking on something called Fantastico.

The blog appears to work fine except that my blogroll has disappeared. Any ideas?

  • You are propbably using a theme that is not compatible with 2.1.

it’s not your theme. i’ve tried different themes and that’s not the problem. i’m gonna post what the problem is in a new topic.

Scott, you may want to check what template tag is used in your theme to display the links/blogroll. Some template tags have been deprecated in 2.1 and you have to replace them with the new one(s).

I looked at the page you suggested, but am not sure what to do with what I found there. Do I copy a link template tag and paste it over the one used in my blog?

from reading the posts rudolf mentioned, it sounds like the sidebar is messed up and has “wp_get_categories” or something, when it *should* be “wp-list_bookmarks”

Thanks for the advice, all who wrote. It turns out the old theme wasn’t compatible with WP 2.0, so a simple change of themes solved the problem. I appreciate the leads.
