WordPress Deleted sample page still showing as homepage

I had tried to import an old backup and it had failed. Later I went ahead and created a new one-page site using a theme.. site looks proper and loads as the home page when I am signed in as the admin. But when I try to access the site from any other browser it loads a sample page that is not even present on this WordPress anymore. The cache is cleared, tried setting the main page as homepage from Settings>> reading >> static page.. still the same issue. What to do? Cant afford to lose the work already done.
