WordPress Didn't Delete my Images?

    WordPress Didn’t Delete My Images from Server??

    WordPress says you need to delete images from the WordPress Dashboard which I did and then the images will be deleted from the “wp-content” folder on the server. So I deleted all of my duplicate images from the wordPress dashboard but when I looked in “wp-content” folder all of the images were still in there. What’s going on? They should have been deleted. no?

    in the folder “wp-content/uploads” it seems images are being stored by year and month. Is this the default and why is it like this? Can I delete the “2011/05” portion and just have my images upload to:

    https://mywebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/logo.png

    or will this really mess up the images I already have uploaded. Please explain all of this?
