wordpress doesn’t login even if the password is correct

  • Hello, I’m having a very strange issue with the wordpress login page, it doesn’t login even if the password is correct. In order to access the dashboard I have to reset my password first.
    It is very strange because I tried to login without reseting my password and instead of taking me to the dashboard it shows me the login page without any error message.

    I re-uploaded the wordpress core files, I also deactivated the all the plugins and still the same results.

    I’m using 1password so I know for sure that the username and the password is correct.

    I’m also using Bcrypt Password for making passwords more secure (https://roots.io/plugins/bcrypt-password/). I already tested the website without having this plugin enable and still the same issue.

    Can anyone help me?

  • Hi,

    Do you have any other plugin besides Bcrypt Password? If yes, then try disabling them one by one and see if you are able to login after disabling each one.

    So from what I understand you are able to reset the password and login ? (At this point are any plugins active ? what about Bcrypt? )

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

    Here is the list of the plugins that I’m using

    • contact-form-7
    • js_composer
    • LayerSlider
    • select-core

    The Bcrypt is inside a mu-plugins folder.

    Even the plugins are active or not (also if i remove completely the bcrypt) the result is the same, i have access only if i reset my password.
    Also I found out that If I logged out, close the tab, and then try to re-open the dashboard I need to reset my password again.

    Is this happening on server as well as your local development environment? I am trying to diagnose if the problem has anything related to the hosting server or is it just WordPress.

    Also, is this on WordPress 4.6 ?

    Hello, I have tested the website on a local environment and I’m having the same results. Basically redirects on the same page without any error message

    Ok, so the problem may be with some plugin not liking latest WordPress. Can you try a manual update in your local environment ?

    Please follow the steps under “Manual Update” as mentioned on this page:

    Before you do this please read the entire page and also make you sure have backed up everything including data.

    I did a manual update and still I’m having the same issue. The only thing that I didn’t is to replace the database with a new one. I will give a try
