• Hi,

I host several WP websites on the same server. All of them with the exception of one, show the needed plugin and themes updates when they are available – as expected.

The one website in question, doesn’t show me any updates are available including the latest WP 5.0 build. I currently have 4.9.8 installed and it says I have the latest version installed.

I enabled WP_DEBUG and now see the following on the Updates page:

You have the latest version of WordPress.

Notice: Trying to get property ‘locale’ of non-object in /home/xxx/website.ca/wp-admin/update-core.php on line 40

Notice: Trying to get property ‘locale’ of non-object in /home/xxx/website.ca/wp-admin/update-core.php on line 43

Notice: Trying to get property ‘locale’ of non-object in /home/xxx/website.ca/wp-admin/update-core.php on line 109

Any idea what is going on? I disabled all plugins and I still have the same issue.

If I try to force a “Re-install Now”, I just get a blank screen, but I don’t see any errors.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi, are you on some sort of managed WordPress hosting? If so, its possible your host hasn’t rolled out WordPress 5.0 update yet. If not, you can connect with FTP and manually update it, here are instructions: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress#Manual_Update

    Cheers!

No, not managed WP hosting. Like I said, I have lots of sites on the same server and they all work just fine. It’s just this one.

And it’s not just WP 5.0. The site says I have no updates, but I know for a fact that I do since I have the same plugins on most sites, and I get notification that the other sites have plugin updates.

The site seems to fail to check for updates for some reason.

    Thanks.

Anyone have any suggestions as to why WP would not show when updates are available?

    Hi

I had some kind of the same problem as you. I don’t know if you also use the White Label CMS plugin, but that was the “bad guy” in my situation. The newest version 2.0.2.1 fixed unable to upgrade themes and plugins!

I hope it can help you as well.

    Best regards
    Torben

Thanks Torben. No I dont have that plugin. I even tried to deactivate all the plugins to see if that fixes the errors, but that didn’t work either. Not sure what else to try. It’s odd, I can’t seem to find any similar articles anywhere else.

Did you ever find a solution to this? We’ve just run into this with one of our sites as well.

I’m seeing this on a couple of sites too.

They are currently running WP v4.9.8 and do NOT show WP needs to be updated to v5.1.1

I run “check again” and still no update options.

These sites are hosted at HostGator on a dedicated server with cPanel. In both cases cPanel was NOT used to install and manage WP. WP was installed manually on both.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

    Thank you,
    LL

I’m having a similar issue. I have 3 websites using WordPress. Two have not had any issues with PHP updates or WordPress updates. Those two were hosted by GoDaddy (c-panel), while the website having issues was hosted elsewhere. I just migrated this website to GoDaddy for hosting, and they are showing at their end that my site is running with the updated PHP. Regardless, my WordPress admin dashboard says it’s not and now won’t let me update WordPress to 5.2.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

For me, it turned out to be the theme I was using. Try switching to one of the default WP themes and see if your installation starts to show the available updates.
