    Hi There,

I’m new to wordpress so be gentle.

I was wondering about the use of an SSL with wordpress and eShop plugin.

I read that eshop doesn’t support SSL? Is this still the case?

From a brief look in wordpress admin merchant accounts (In admin test mode) I can see it asks for only a email address and password for Paypal which would be the merchant Paypal account I assume.

How does wordpress work with Paypal? Is it all via a separate paypal window?

I’m used to using shopping carts with Paypal physically installed into the cart with option to go to Paypal if they choose.

I have always used SSL for online shops for security.

Is this needed for wordpress shop?

    Any feedback appreciated.

OK read a bit more at I can see SSL is not supported in eShop and looks like no plans for it to be.

That’s a real shame. Plenty of free carts out there that do.

For those looking for info about it:

Doesn’t mention SSL or security in any titles. Probably somewhere in one of the topics but don’t bother wasting your time.

    From what I can gather…

eShop has list of several payment gateways that are available to make purchases through. These will send the customer to a protected page to make their purchase. Like online banking for example.

No payment details in regards the customer will be stored on wordpress.

So you will have to login to your merchant account with whomever your chosen payment provider is ie Paypal to check if payments have been made.

if you want to use SSL you can, just not with a shared certificate.

But you will need a plugin to ensure certain pages are only accessed over https.

Firstly, Thanks for creating a great Mod Elfin.

In regards to the topic… I’m happy to purchase an SSL.

    Is it required though?

Does it make it any more secure with present setup or eShop?

    Is it required though?

No as all of the payment processing takes place on the merchant gateway site.

Does it make it any more secure with present setup or eShop?

    Not especially, no.

    Thanks for the reply!

    Elfin,
I have eShop set up on my site, using PayPal. After someone makes a purchase they are taken back to the Thank You page. And then they get a message saying: Security Warning. Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered…

Does this happen for everyone using PayPal? Why don’t I see more people asking about this?

If using SSL does not make it more secure, how do I prevent this message from displaying? And if I have to have SSL in order to have this not display, how do I set that up? You mentioned using a plugin. What plugin?

    Please post your own topic.
