• It appears that when I export from my database from version 5.1.1 into a wxr file format that it adds a cr and multiple tabs into the content and excerpt fields. Because it adds characters to the excerpt the auto excerpt function does not work on the posts when I import into the new site. Since they are invisible characters, they do not show in the database until I copy/paste into Coda and do a show invisible characters. Manually looking at the wxr file it is obvious where the characters are inserted.

New posts work fine and if I manually remove the extra characters from the excerpt field it works.

I looked for a support link to the import plugin but it there does not appear to be one since it is made by WordPress. I have 500 posts so the usual advice to manually do an excerpt is really a bad option.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Just checked and it looks like there’s a bunch of \u00a0 (no-break spaces) in your excerpts. You may be able to use a search+replace plugin and replace every single instance of <copy-paste the invisible character> in the database with a blank string, but make sure you take a backup first.
