I’m helping a client understand a brand new error from Wordfence that is referring to your plugin. I’ve pasted below the details of the warning. Do you have any idea (they are long time users of the plugin.)

    ?

    Modified plugin file: wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap-core.php

    Type: File

    ·  Issue Found December 8, 2023 10:07 am

    Medium

    ·         Details

    ·         Filename: /home/customer/www/wmlex.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap-core.php

    ·         File Type: Plugin

    ·         Details: This file belongs to plugin “XML Sitemap Generator for Google” version “4.1.13” and has been modified from the file that is distributed by www.ads-software.com for this version. Please use the link to see how the file has changed. If you have modified this file yourself, you can safely ignore this warning. If you see a lot of changed files in a plugin that have been made by the author, then try uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin to force an upgrade. Doing this is a workaround for plugin authors who don’t manage their code correctly.

I think Wordfence could explain best, but this error appears to communicate that the file in question differs from the original file in the release. I have no way of knowing who modified that file, but this issue is not one we can resolve. As a first step, I recommend reinstalling the plugin and then trying to understand who made the file change and why before looking into security issues.

    Maybe related this issue.

I’m probably using 4.1.14 from nstalled files, but in installed plugin list, it’s 4.1.13.

I want to downgrade to 4.1.13 for some issues in 4.1.14, but I cannot do it with wp command.

wp plugin update google-sitemap-generator --version=4.1.13 will display Installing XML Sitemap Generator for Google (4.1.13) , but download https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/google-sitemap-generator.4.1.14.zip and install the version.

I guess that version 4.1.14 is installed but recognized as version 4.1.13, so such file mismatch errors are rised.

@obache we had a tagging mistake in the last release, v4.1.15 should behave as expected.
