WordPress Footer Image with Links

    I wanted to have an image as my footer, rather than text, so I made this in photoshop, sliced it up, open it in dreamweaver and set it up so that my links were correct and I posted it in my WordPress Footer. My problem is that it shows up properly in dreamweaver, but it looks messed up in WordPress itself… Can anyone help me to fix this? Thanks!

  • The reason why it’s not looking the way you want it to, is two-fold.

    First, don’t test in Dreamweaver. That’s a helpful tool for some things, but will not give you a good representation of how things will look in an actual browser.

    Second, you’re using a table for layout. This is a very outdated method of coding HTML and I strongly recommend you take a more modern approach using current HTML elements (DIVs, mainly) and CSS. By using that, you have better chances of making things look good in all browsers.

    Finally: if you insist using an image instead of text then that’s your right, but even though it’s probably quicker to code for you, it’s bad for SEO, bad for compatibility and usability, and will cause slower load times. Just a suggestion!

    First, if not Dreamweaver, what should I test it in? PS: I’m on OSx

    Second, I don’t know HTML/CSS…Can you help me to recode it?

    Finally, the load times and SEO are not an issue for me.

    Instead of Dreamweaver, use actual browsers to test your code on. OSX comes with Safari so you can use that, but you should test in as many browsers as you can (Chrome, Firefox, etc.)

    Load times may not be an issue for you…how about the visitors of your site?

    Ok. Will do…I have all three on my Mac…

    As for my load time, the website is a free website… I am only using it as a test system; when I am ready to fully launch it, I am going to purchase a Domain and Hosting. Then I will be ready to fix my load time issues…

    If you take a look at the website here, you will see in the footer, I have an image, but I made it using both photoshop (slices) and dreamweaver…

    As you can see, it is not displaying properly…

    I was told that the HTML Codes used in Dreamweaver is outdated and there is a better way to do it. My problem is that I do not know HTML.

    I am simply asking if there is anyone who can help me re-write this code so it will display and work properly…

    I know it’s not your fault that Dreamweaver creates rubbish out-dated code, and that you’re using Dreamweaver because you’re not familiar with HTML. Asking for the correct code is asking too much from a volunteer here, there’s just too much work involved.

    We can help you resolve your original problem though; why your footer is distorted. The most likely reason why your footer is distorted is because there is some other CSS applying styles to that code.

    Try talking to your theme’s vendors about this issue.

    I would just create one giant image and dump it in there, then underneath I would add a note saying “sorry this isn’t my code and I hope you don’t hold me responsible for any discrimination against those with disabilities”.
