• Ok, so i’m working for a company, and making them an exclusively available internally, wordpress intranet site.

What i mean by that, is, they will only be able to view / access the site, from within the confines of the building ( or more specifically , whilst connected to the network )

I’ve constructed the whole site, but now I have a few questions concerning how the hosting / migration of this intranet is to be done, from what the IT guy’s tell me, is that they plan to have me put the whole site on a flash disk, and migrate it over to the “server” computer.

So my question basically is, how do I move the site (off the internet) and host it locally, also, How would the editing process work afterward ? Could i still do it remotely from my Macbook pro ( considering i’m connected to the company netwok via ethernet )

Please be as basic as possible with your replies, as i’m quite well versed in HTML and CSS, but a tad lacking in the more technical aspects of this kind of stuff. I’m basically useless in terms of anything back-end.

    Thanks in advance,
Any and all replies would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi TokerCoughin,

The process here shouldn’t be any different than a standard WordPress migration. You’ll need to migrate the files, the database, and then update the wp-config file with the correct credentials.

If you haven’t already, take a look here:

When a site is hosted on an intranet, you can only access it if you’re within the intranet. If you wanted to work on the site from home, most likely you’ll need to setup a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection.

    Thanks for the prompt response!
I neglected to check back on the status of this post, but I’m glad I did today.

Thank you, I’ve moved a site before, with SOME difficulty, but I’d immagine I can again find my way around on that, especially whilst using the codex as a reference point.

As far as updating it from home, I don’t think that will be necessary, because i’ll be working from within the office ( while connected to the network ), however, how does one set up a VPN (as simply as possible) just for future reference.

thanks again ce_kevinw, you’re a lord amongst peasents.

Were you able to set this up from a local windows box? I’m looking into doing the same thing and was curious of the steps.

    IIS7 Compatible
    Active Directory Authentication and Integration
