• Alright, I’ll confess…I am a techno-dolt. Can WordPress be used to construct a standard website with static content and no provisions for adding comments and such? I like the idea of having a CMS/Blog look to the front end but I would like to convert an existing website to the WP format for ease of updates etc.

  • It sure can.

Any specific questions you have in mind?

I figured out how to turn the comments off but how do I set the first page up so it kinda looks like a magazine? Are there templates that will do that? As for the rest of the site, I want to create sections for different subjects and possibly integrate a SMF forum. The material I have uses lots of pictures, how hard is it to keep the picture intensive format?

    Thanks!

I’m also considering converting my website to WP. Am I right in thinking that in the blog, I would place the content of my web pages onto WP pages? I’m also assuming that the WP pages, while static, can contain links to other pages as well as to external URLs – is this correct?

    yes

“Am I right in thinking that in the blog, I would place the content of my web pages onto WP pages”…what are WP pages? Do you mean just regular posts?

Nope. Posts aren’t Pages (and Pages aren’t Posts). Follow that link to read a bit more about WordPress Pages.
