WordPress form add 700 KB in page size

Please know that some WPForms assets are added to the page in order for the form to work properly. But it’s weird that a form increases a page by 700Kb.

In order for us to investigate this on your site, could you please create a test page with and without a form? That way, we can compare the files on both pages and try to provide further information about the issue.

Thanks for the links, and I could see the difference between the size of the pages. However, it seems that most of the difference is due to some Google reCAPTCHA scripts, with almost 600 KB, and here’s a screenshot: https://a.supportally.com/i/bOj2M0.

I tried to reproduce the difference on my staging site using the Twenty Twenty-Three theme and the Gutenberg editor, and here are the results:

• Page without WPForms = 74.3 KB – screenshot: https://a.supportally.com/i/hZyLjS
• Page with WPForms = 391 KB – screenshot: https://a.supportally.com/i/xqSfqr
• Page with WPForms and Google reCAPTCHA v3 = 2.0 MB – screenshot: https://a.supportally.com/i/mHZ4iZ

With this, I recommend removing Google reCAPTCHA from your page, and this should decrease its size.

Thank you very much for your reply!

However, when I tried to disable reCAPTCHA (i use the option built in by WPF inside the forms, so I expect it to be compatible with the plugin) I still had absolutely the same results as i had before (WPF increasing size by almost 700 KB).

I use https://tools.pingdom.com/ tool to check the web page size.

Could you advise, please?

Looking on https://fernite.com/plastic-recycling/pelletizer-knives/erema-blades/, the Google reCAPTCHA continues there. Could you please duplicate the page and add a form without Google reCAPTCHA?

As I shared in my previous message with screenshots from my staging site, it seems Google reCAPTCHA increases the page size considerably. With this, I’d recommend removing Google reCAPTCHA from your form.

Please note that Google reCAPTCHA is a third-party service, and we’re not able to optimize it.

To improve your page size, you could try another anti-spam option available on WPForms.

Yes, I have created another page without recaptcha.

https://fernite.com/plastic-recycling/pelletizer-knives/erema-blades-test2/ – without RECAP

I can see the difference in size. However, we still need reCAPTCHA or something else, to protect us from spam.

Could you please advise the alternative?

I could see that the page https://fernite.com/plastic-recycling/pelletizer-knives/erema-blades/ (with reCAPTCHA) had 5.2 MB, while https://fernite.com/plastic-recycling/pelletizer-knives/erema-blades-test2/ has 3.7 MB.

Please note that Google reCAPTCHA is a third-party service, and optimize its scripts is outside of our scope for support. In case you’d like to look into custom development options for this, we highly recommend using Codeable.

Or, you could try another anti-spam option available on WPForms.

thank you for your time and explanation. I’ve tried to disable Google Recaptcha and enable an anti-span protector under Security setting. However, on its own, it did not help to keep away test-span messages from our email box.

Unfortunately, for now, we have to stay with WPF doubling the weight of our pages (because we must use Google recaptcha to protect our mails) .

Please let me know if you can offer another solution.

We’d recommend trying?another anti-spam option available on WPForms, like Cloudflare Turnstile or hCaptcha.
