• Hello, few days ago, without upgrading wordpress or installing any software, WordPress started to hang randomly and often (more than 50% of the times).

    It happens:
    – On all browsers
    – Only in specific PC (Windows XP).
    – With or without being logged in as Admin
    – Only on one WordPress website

When it hangs, it usually comes to life after 30-40 seconds.
I didn’t try to deactivate all plugins since in all other computers everything works fine (I can’t see how it has anything to do with it).

WordPress version is 3.1.1, the theme is Graphene 1.1.5 and the operating system is Windows XP.

    Any thoughts?

Any help will much appreciated. Thank you.

  • You need to upgrade both WordPress and Graphene. You are using old versions of both.

That’s true, but how come in other computers everything works fine?

I just did a system restore and it didn’t help either. We afraid of doing upgrade since we use a sensitive plugin for multi-languages, but we will if no solution will come up soon.

    Thank you for your response.

    A couple of quick questions that might help;

    1) Is this the only pc with Windows XP that you have tried, or have you tried other computers running Windows XP, and they seem to work okay?

    2) Can you give us a link to the site that’s causing the problem on the Windows XP machine?

    Thank you.

    1. No, I tried on another XP and one Win7. Other computers of admins (one windows, one Mac) didn’t encounter any issues.

    2. https://www.gary-tv.com/garymain/
(WordPress is installed inside the “garymain” directory, the root is not WordPress). The problem occurs in all the pages.

    Thanks again.

I was unable to duplicate the symptom using Win XP with IE8 or FF 19

The fact that it’s isolated to only one machine, and the symptom displays across all browsers on only that machine, really suggests a machine specific issue.

My suggestion is to first make sure that the browsers on that machine are all updated to the latest versions available for that OS, and that the browser caches are then completely emptied. After that make sure that the flash components are updated to the newest versions. Make sure that the flash config settings allow at least a minimal amount of component storage on the local pc – at least for testing purposes – due to the presence of video players located on the site.

Another thing to consider might be physical location and internet access of the problematic machine. For example, does it have a unique proxy connection configuration, is it in a physical location that places it behind hardware that is different from the other machines on the same network, or is there software running on that particular machine that could be interfering with browser/connection efficiency, etc…

It really doesn’t sound like a WordPress related issue at this point.

Thank you very much for this detailed response. I will to see if it can solve my problem. I really appreciate you help.
