WordPress Gives Zero Fs

As of right now, and I have screenshots: 1+ million Active Installations of Classic Editor. 300,000 Active Installations of Gutenberg. What does that tell you?

@walton + 1, we just installed Classic Editor on all of our websites today as well.

Commenters adding download numbers for various plugins, to support their arguments, should also include consideration of the WordPress Download Counter, to try to give their assertions a more realistic assessment.

Could we please take a step back, there’s suddenly a very big focus on numbers (which I unfortunately added to, and was not the intention behind my statement).

You’re all going a bit off the wire and aren’t truly addressing the review here.

The truth of it all, and I know it’s an unpopular thing to say, is that we don’t care about star ratings, no plugin or theme authors on www.ads-software.com should. We care about the experiences, if you leave a review, tell us why you’re having a good or bad experience and let us see how we can work with that information.

And please do keep in mind that we’re all volunteers here, stop with the remarks talking as if we’re a big corporation.

I will close this review for further comments if things continue to spiral away, which isn’t fair to users actually sharing, so y’all be nice now.

We did the same, and also we are using 4.9.9, not 5.0.1.

@clorith that unfortunately is exactly what the major problem is.

When it’s all volunteers and nobody is actually fully responsible for a product, nobody really cares what millions of followers think. Ratings!? Who cares, they don’t mean anything. Numbers? Who looks at numbers!? We’re not business analytics here… we’re just volunteers, we like to code…

There is no bottom line, no one will get fired for screwing up big time. Let’s just roll this very raw thing out and if there are issues – we’ll fix them in our spare time. And let’s do it before the holidays too, so when we’re celebrating with our families, millions of people will be pulling their hair out trying to fix all of the websites they are responsible for because their businesses depend on it, and they should think how they are going to feed their families in 2019 instead of celebrating with them now… Why not!?

Wow. This blows me away but am not surprised. WP is is a bad place right now.

My 1 star review WAS my experience. I have made one review in 12 years of Working with WordPress, but you blithely dismiss it in a bizarrely unprofessional and extremely alarming statement from a person speaking for www.ads-software.com.

This statement re-enforces my decision to start looking to move away from WordPress.

The Classic Editor plugin (& several alternatives) allows you to do that on a per site/post/page/user/.. basis – for free.

Completely agree with Julia’s original review and with @jonshannow. How can the core team not care about 1-star reviews? We sell WordPress plugins and if we got even one 1-star review I would be a) mortified and b) take every reasonable step to address that in a future release.

I’ve been working with WordPress for 10 years and have never seen anything released by the core team that has been even close to this bad. Maybe the Customizer wasn’t the greatest idea of all time but it’s ok and it works. But Gutenberg is Just. Plain. Terrible. At the very least, make it optional (e.g. Visual tab, Gutenberg tab and Text view) and the go back to the drawing board.

The number of downloads for Classic Editor and the number of 1-star reviews shows you have a serious problem here.

When did it go off topic? All the posts here are commenting on the OP and the moderators responses to her. At least this post was responded too unlike the 1000’s others you ignored. Why did two mods comment on this post while ignoring the rest? What is different about this review?

@anevins can you please clarify what you mean by “on topic”?

We have not once changed the topic and it’s still our communication with the moderators about the forced on WP users glitchy, unintuitive, unwanted Gutenberg and I believe the reason why everyone is checking back here is because we all want to know where do we go from here?

If you guys actually listen to us here – the WP users that invest their precious time into sharing their experiences with you – and not just defending the decisions that the WP team made, it would be very logical for you guys to consider turning this into an optional tab. I mentioned it in the very beginning of this conversation and @andykeith added a great suggestion:

What would be your guys response to this? Is that something that millions of users who went back to Classic can hope for? Is there a good reason why you would not go back? Where do we stand with all of this?

Like I mentioned above, we did go back to Classic on all of our websites, but whenever I hear that the support of something that we use has an expiration date, it makes me very uneasy, even if it’s as far as 2021.

The answer would be no, that’s not going to happen.

Phase 1 of the new editing experience is live, and will receive updates to improve it and fix bugs. Phase 2 is beginning now, and will be working on converting widget and menu areas to be block based as well.

If you have your hopes pinned on classic, then I would advise you to look elsewhere. It’s not coming back, and it has a date on it for a reason.

The reviews were never any kind of “make or break” for the new direction. The new direction was decided and final years ago, when the work began.

Continued calls in the reviews to roll it back are kind of wasted effort. It’s not rolling back. Adapt, or move on.
