WordPress has started cropping my featured images and I dont want it to

Is this something in the latest update? Or by the “Classic Editor” plugin that fixes WordPress Gutenburg? I noticed my image size maxes were reset (which of course caused problems also).

But more problematic is that the images, when I put them in the “featured image” WordPress is now cropping them to fit some predetermined size (not just cropping with css, but actually cropping the featured image, so if you get the image location and go to it its cropped there too).

Any ideas to fix this?
