• I’m in a real pickle. I just realized that WordPress hasn’t updated and I’m still on version 3.8.1. I’m on GoDaddy hosting which I know sucks and I am planning on changing. I know I was updating fine prior to 3.8.1 and have no idea why it stopped working. When I click the button to check for updates it keeps telling me I have the most up to date version.

I’ve somewhat resolved myself to doing a manual update, and now I’ve realized that I should do incremental updating which there are like 40 versions in between.

I have no idea what direction to go at this point. Any help or suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated.

  • Might try the Background Update Tester and see what it says as to why the updates aren’t working.

I disabled automatic updates myself and always manually click the update button when a new version is out.

i do believe you are correct in incremental updates

I also am fairly sure you don’t have to do each little incremental update. There used to be a list, I thought, that said what ones to do and what ones to skip.

Hopefully someone will chime in here with that info.

MarkRH, I ran the Background Update Tester and it said everything was fine.

I don’t have an update button. I have a button that says Check Again, after a line saying when I checked for the latest version last. When I click Check Again it tells me I have the most recent version installed.

I tried installing an updater plugin that would allow me to turn auto updating on and off so I turned it off for everything and nothing changed. I even tried turning auto update on, even for core updates and nothing.

I finally decided to take the plunge and start manually updating. I went ahead and went right from 3.8.1 to 3.9 then I did 4.0 and then 4.1 and so on. Everything seems to be fine so far. It’s wanted to update the DB version after every update as it should. I still have no idea why I have to manually update, but I’ve gotten really good at it.

I would think that once you got current that the ‘update’ button would then start working. I had a site once like that and then started working. I don’t set any ‘auto’ updates, at least I haven’t yet, but do update whenever a new version comes around.
    Good luck.
